Multiresolution Surface Representation Based on Displacement Volumes
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a new representation for multiresolution models which uses volume elements enclosed between the different resolution levels to encode the detail information. Keeping these displacement volumes locally constant during a deformation of the base surface leads to a natural behaviour of the detail features. The corresponding reconstruction operator can be implemented efficiently by a hierarchical iterative relaxation scheme, providing close to interactive response times for moderately complex models. Based on this representation we implement a multiresolution editing tool for irregular polygon meshes that allows the designer to freely edit the base surface of a multiresolution model without having to care about selfintersections in the respective detailed surface. We demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the reconstruction by several examples with real-world data.

Displacement Patches for GPU-Oriented View-Dependent Rendering
In this paper we present a new approach for interactive view-dependent rendering of large polygonal datasets, which relies on advanced features of modern graphics hardware. Our preprocessing algorithm starts by generating a simplified representation of the input mesh. It then builds a multiresolution hierarchy for the simplified model. For each face in the hierarchy, it generates and assigns a ...
متن کاملMultiresolution Distance Volumes for Progressive Surface Compression
We present a surface compression method that stores surfaces as wavelet-compressed signed-distance volumes. Our approach enables the representation of surfaces with complex topology and arbitrary numbers of components within a single multiresolution data structure. This data structure elegantly handles topological modification at high compression rates. Our method does not require the costly an...
متن کاملAutomatic Generation of Structure Preserving MultiresolutionModels
We are proposing a multiresolution representation which uses a subdivision surface as a smooth base surface with respect to which a high resolution mesh is defined by normal displacement. While this basic representation is quite straightforward, our actual contribution lies in the automatic generation of such a representation. Given a high resolution mesh, our algorithm is designed to derive a ...
متن کاملGPU-Based Multiresolution Deformation using Approximate Normal Field Reconstruction
Multiresolution shape editing performs global deformations while preserving fine surface details by modifying a smooth base surface and reconstructing the modified detailed surface as a normal displacement from it. Since two non-trivial operators (deformation and reconstruction) are involved, the computational complexity can become too high for real-time deformations of complex models. We prese...

Multiresolution motion analysis has gained considerable research interest as a unified framework to facilitate a variety of motion editing tasks. Within this framework, motion data are represented as a collection of coefficients that form a coarseto-fine hierarchy. The coefficients at the coarsest level describe the global pattern of a motion signal, while those at fine levels provide details a...
